Welcome to the Siouxland Friends & Neighbors (SFN) Blog! Add our web address to your Favorites list, send it to your friends & prospective members, and check back often for updates!!
First off, what’s a blog? Well, according to Wikipedia,
A blog (an abridgment of the term web log) is a website, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog. Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.
So, my goal is for the SFN blog to become a group effort. Any & all members of SFN can become contributing authors by:
- Creating a wordpress account (http://wordpress.com, “username only please”) and then,
- Notifying our Administrator of the email account you used when registering on WordPress (SiouxlandFriendsAndNeighbors@gmail.com)
- The Administrator will ’look you up’ within WordPress and add you as a User & Author, and then you can Log In (on the right sidebar of the site under “Users Only”) and make posts as often as you like!
- Email the Administrator (aka Melanie) if you have ?s or need help (SiouxlandFriendsAndNeighbors@gmail.com)
This blog will be an information sharing and recruitment tool for our organization, so don’t hesitate to make a post when you:
- see a really great movie, read a good book
- discover a great restaurant or shop
- have a recipe to share
- know of an event in Siouxland that others might enjoy
- know of a great place for parents (and stay-at-home-moms) to take their kids
- know of an upcoming charity fundraiser
- want to share some information about a charity you like
- want to recommend a cool campsite, hiking trail, 5k, bikerace, etc.
- know of fun children’s programs around Siouxland
- etcetera, etcetera (be creative & have fun with it!)
There are no rules, except to keep your posts G rated and respect the privacy of others (no personal email addresses, phone numbers or residential addresses). FYI: if you have pictures you’d like to share or need help using the blog, email the Administrator at siouxlandfriendsandneighbors@gmail.com.
