Our last charitable donation of the 2007/2008 year was made to SFN member, Lori, for her breast cancer walk. She did us all proud by completing the walk and raising money and awareness for breast cancer – way to go Lori!! She asked that I share the following letter of thanks on the website…
Dear Siouxland Friends and Neighbors,
I would like to take the opportunity to say “Thank You” for the $200 donation towards my walk for breast cancer. It is with great pride and relief that I tell you I made it the entire 60 miles and was able to raise over $2300, which contributed to the $6.1 million raised by all Chicago walkers for breast cancer! The three days of the walk were long, as it took me 8-9 hours each day to complete the 20 miles, only to go back to camp and shower in an 18 wheeler “shower truck” and sleep on the ground in a pink tent! I’ll tell you this much … my sleeping bag never felt so good! The entire experience was amazing. I walked and celebrated with breast cancer survivors, some of whom were in the middle of treatment, shed a few (many) tears remembering those lost to the disease, and was humbled by the “All Abilities” team who were all physically challenged. Most did the walk in their wheelchairs and one woman made her way along the route with the use of a
walker. Talk about motivation! We all had sore muscles and multiple blisters on our feet, but no one complained because as one of the mottos read, “Blisters don’t need chemo.” How true!As I think back to that weekend in August, I feel so blessed to have been able to participate and I would not have been able to do it without the generosity of my donors. Thank you again for making the breast cancer 3 day one of the charity donations, and sponsoring one of your own members. I look forward to meeting many more of you at SFN events this year!
