Siouxland Friends and Neighbors is a women’s welcoming and charitable group based in North Sioux City, SD. Membership is open to women across Siouxland; newcomers and lifelong residents are equally welcome! We are comprised of women with diverse interests looking for opportunities to meet new people, discover fun places, and experience unique adventures around Siouxland.
(Q: What is “Siouxland”? A: Anything located within a 30-mile radius of Sioux City, Iowa)
Our Mission: We are dedicated to creating a welcoming environment for Siouxland residents that enables us to meet people, make friends and find fulfilling activities to enhance our lives.
We have a wide variety of interest groups available to our members. Most of our groups are ladies only, but significant others are welcome to join us for Movie Club, Gourmet Group and TGIF. You can learn more about our interest groups by attending our annual Kick-Off Party in September. Our interest groups for the 2008/2009 year are:
- Bunko & 4-5-6
- Bunko is a simple parlor game played in teams with three dice and 4-5-6 is a quick & simple dice game played with one dollar bills
- Evening Book Club
- This club meets in the evening every other month (alternates with Movie Club) to review a book selected by the interest group leader
- Daytime Book Club
- This club will meet during a weekday to review a book selected by the interest group leader
- Movie Club
- This club meets every other month (alternates with evening book club) to see a movie selected by the interest group leader and then the group goes out to dinner afterward (husband’s welcome)
- Bridge Group
- Bridge is a trick-taking card game of skill and chance
- Gourmet Group
- This is a couples group, you must get signed up at the beginning of the SFN year to participate, you’ll get the menu & recipes in advance – difficult to explain, find out more at our annual kick-off in Sept.
- Lunch Bunch
- This group meets for lunch at various locations around Siouxland once a month at noon on a weekday, children are welcome
- Mother’s Group/Play Group
- A play group for stay-at-home Moms and their children, often meets at a private residence or at a destination (e.g. Longlines, Siouxland Gymnastics, Pumpkin Patch)
- Scrapbooking
- This group meets once a month at the interest group leader’s home (she’s also a Creative Memories consulant) during a week day
- TGIF
- This group meets once a month on a Friday night at a private residence to mingle, meet new people and have a good time - everyone brings an appetizer to share and a beverage (husbands welcome)
- Ladies Night Out
- New this year, we’re excited to see what this interest group’s leaders have planned for us!
- Helping Hands
- Members are ready to help by delivering meals or running errands – whatever the need may be
Membership is open to all women in the Siouxland area! Our dues, holiday dinner fundraiser and various volunteer activities help support our community. Siouxland Friends and Neighbors (SFN) contributed volunteer hours, supplies and/or cash donations to the following local charities during the 2007/2008 SFN year:
- Friends of the North Sioux City Library
- Jackson Recovery Women & Children’s Center
- S.T.A.R.S
- Support Siouxland Soldiers
- Siouxland Humane Society
- Dolly Parton Imagination Library (operated by Sioux Empire United Way)
